What Does “Affordable Housing” Mean in Arlington?

Most people would laugh when they hear rent and sale prices of the real estate in Arlington followed by “affordable.” I would too, except there are actually places that are officially labeled “Affordable Housing Units” by Arlington County.

There’s no public housing in Arlington, so the Affordable Housing units are privately owned apartment complexes with subsidized rent. For a complete list of these complexes, read the Housing Assistance Brochure.

There are specific qualifications on household income to qualify for the affordable housing units. The full list of qualifications can be found here.

If you’re more interested in programs to help you buy a home, Arlington County also offers several programs for home buyers, including Down Payment Assistance.
