Thanks to the popularity of the HGTV shows, there’s a lot of misconceptions about buying a house. A common question I get is “how many times can we see a house before we buy it?” The answer is – as many as times permit, and you’ll see it again after you have a contract on it.
In many of the shows, buyers see 3 houses and they have to pick one. In reality, you’ll likely have a list of houses to go see until you find “the one.” Assuming your initial visit is with a real estate agent, you’re free to go to the open house if there is one, or go back to see the house a 2nd time. Bring family, bring a contractor, bring whoever you need to help make your decision. Once you submit an offer and it is accepted, you’ll also have access to see the house for an inspection and a final walk-through. If you’d like to see it again for some reason, you’ll need to get authorization from the current owner and agent to go into the house, afterall, it’s not your house – YET!
