Years ago, there was a scam sent out to new homeowners soliciting mortgage payments saying their loans had been sold to ABC Company. There’s a new scam out there seeking $86 from new homeowners in exchange for a copy of your Deed. I’ve had clients who recently bought both in Arlington and Fairfax County receive these letters, but BEWARE, this is solicitation. DO NOT MAIL them anything.
First of all, your original deed will be sent to you a few months after settlement once it’s been recorded with the county. Keep it in a safe place!
Second, you should have been given a copy at settlement.
Third, it’s a public record and can be accessed ANYTIME for FREE in the County Land Records.
Never, never, never pay for this!
